The Vendetta:
Part 5

Christy Ambrose

"Ok, where to first? Amanda asked.

"I thought we meet with T.P. first and see what he was able to come up
with."

"Well, let's go."

When they arrived at the park they found T.P. already seated at a
table under a tree.

"Lee, Amanda," T.P. said as he stood to give Amanda a hug.

"Hey T.P., where you able to find anything out for us?" Lee asked.

"Nothing substantial, I have a few questions out there but I don't
know if anything is going to come from them."

Lee sighed and ran his hand though his hair in frustration. "Ok, just
keep us advised." Lee said as he and Amanda stood to leave.

"Maybe Lana will have better news for us," Lee said he held the door
of the car open.

"Let's hope so, I would prefer not to have to wait till he strikes to
have something to go on." Amanda replied

"You and me both. You know you never did tell me where Sam practiced
law at before joining the campaign."

"I didn't?"

"No, you didn't."

"It was New York."

"Some of the family works up there, in fact two of them are court
clerks. This just might be the break we need, if this is someone who
wants revenge for the past," Lee said referring to the his circle of
informants.

"Well, let's go talk to Lana so we can get back to the office." Lee
started the car and put it in gear pulling out of the parking place
and headed to their next meeting.

Meanwhile back at the White House

"Do you want to work on the political list first, or do you want to go
and get those files from your townhouse and work on that list first?"

"Why don't we work on the political list first. But to be perfectly
honest with you Josh, I can't think of who I've pissed off enough in
either my law career or my political career to warrant my getting
killed. After all, I worked in corporate law. Sure I took a few
cases on the side for friends mostly but it wasn't anything really
serious, and here I really haven't worked on anything so major to get
anyone this worked up about."

"Whether or not you actually had a hand in it or just weighed in on
the subject, nobody outside of the senior staff and our assistants
would really know. And even then, most people would form their own
opinion about it. Besides, who knows what kind of warped individual
this person is anyway. For all we know you could have cut him off one
day on your way into work, and that could be it," Josh told him, his
sarcastic nature in full force.

"Now as far as the list goes I say we should put Lillienfield top on
the list, Josh said.

A little while later Josh and Sam finish up the list. "Well, I guess
that's all, I'm going to go check and make sure that there is nothing
Donna either can't postpone or cancel and then we can go over to your
townhouse and get those files."

"Josh you don't have to go with me to get the files."

"If you think I'm going to let you go by yourself, then your crazier
than I am."

"Number one your not crazy; two I will have my agent with me; three we
don't know when he's going to strike."

"Exactly my point, we don't know when he's going to strike. You could
walk out of the building and he try to kill you. So, I'm not letting
you leave without me. Come to think of it maybe you should stay with
me till he's caught. Your apartment may be staked out, it would make
it harder to find you."

"Josh, I'm not going to let some maniac control my life. The fact
that I have two agents following me around is bad enough, I'm not
going to let him run me out of my home. It's just that plain and
simple."

"Ok, Sam whatever you say. I'm just going to go and check with Donna.
I am going to go with you to your townhouse. That one you aren't
going to get out of," Josh agreed all the while thinking of what he
might be able to do to get Sam to see it his way. `Maybe I can get
the President to talk some sense into him. And if all else fails
there is always Mrs. Bartlet.'

"Oh alright but hurry, I want to get this over with," Sam said giving
in. After all, you can't will every battle.

Meanwhile back at the agency

"Amanda there you are," came a call just as soon as they walked in the
door of the Agency.

"What do you need Jackie?" Amanda sighed as she questioned her
assistant.

"Well there are a lot of phone messages for you and some files you
need to sign off on and...."

"Jackie, hold on why don't you go on up and I'll be there in a few
minutes," Amanda interrupted her assistant.

"Ok, I'll be waiting up stairs for you," Jackie said as she bounded up
the stairs.

Amanda sighed and pinched her nose, she really wished that she didn't
have to deal with Jackie after the day that they had.

"I'm going to need to go upstair and take care of at least a few of
the things that Jackie has for me. I'll try to run a search on Sam's
cases that might have made it to the papers in a little bit."

"Ok, I'll see you later. I"m sure I have a ton of paperwork and phone
messages on my desk too. I also need to get those calls into the
family that's in New York and see what they can come up with for us."
Then after giving Amanda a quick kiss they both head off in their
separate directions.

Back at the White House

"Donna," Josh bellows.

"Don't yell," Donna calmly says.

"Donna, what do I have on my schedule for the next couple of hours?"
Josh asked as he led Donna into his office.

"Not much, Leo called and told me that you would probably need your
schedule cleared for the day."

"Did he tell you why?" Josh asked, suddenly looking very tired.

"No he didn't but, I think it has something to do with why Sam has a
Secret Service Agent following him around."

"What do you know about that?" Josh asked, giving her a funny look

"Nothing," then at his skeptical look said, "really, I don't know why.
I don't think anyone else has noticed the agent, but they will. Not
much goes unnoticed around here, at least not for long."

Sighing Josh sat down in his chair. "If I tell you why, you have to
swear you won't tell anyone else."

"I promise Josh, I won't tell anyone."

"I mean it Donna, no one not Bonnie, Ginger, or Margaret. This is
Sam's to tell when and if he wants to."

Sitting down in the chair in front of the desk Donna said, "I promise
Josh."

After looking into her eyes for what seemed an eternity. Josh told
her, "A hit has been placed out on Sam and we don't know who it is."

"Oh my God," Donna whispered. "Why would anyone want to kill Sam? I
mean I know he can be a pain in the butt at times, but he's a good
guy."

"What we know right now is that it seems to be for revenge."

"Revenge, what could Sam have done that would cause someone to want to
kill him for revenge?"

"The tip we have said that it's because he ruined someone's life."

"Oh my God."

"My thought's exactly, just try to keep my schedule as clear as
possible for the next few days without anyone suspecting anything is
up."

Ok no problem."

"I've got to go with Sam to his townhouse now so that he can get some
files, so that we can hopefully get to the bottom of this," Josh told
her as he got out of his chair.

"Be careful", Donna called out as he left the room.
