Seat belts.
Morals.
The lack of Starbucks in New Hampshire.
Okay, so maybe that last one really doesn't count.
But when did everything become such a... do-or-die thing?
You can't deal with issues anymore unless they're sexy. It
has to be tobacco or RU-486 or...
M.S.
I guess that's when it happened.
When everybody else stopped caring about things that other
people really do care about. Oh sure, fighting Big Tobacco is good
and approving RU-486 is, too, but...
Pennies.
Seat belts.
Morals.
The things that might really hit home with your average Joe.
I'm beginning to see, truly, the virtue of Big Block of
Cheese Day. We haven't had one of those in a while and I seriously
doubt we'll ever have one again. Maybe that's our problem.
We've lost sight of everything but the big picture: Re-
election.
There's still so much we have to do, still so many things we
*should* do. Campaign finance reform... Furthering public
education...
But, no, we're going to let Bruno and Connie and Doug dictate
everything because they see the "goal" better than we do: Win.
Well, I have something I wish I could tell the President and
Leo and everybody else: Winning isn't everything.
They don't see it.
So, until they do... I'll keep fighting for Jacksonian
Democracy. For the little guy. For pennies and seat belts...
And morals.
