"It's really okay," Lisa reassured him. "Stephen and I hadn't planned anything special, so I'd rather have Tyler celebrate the holiday than let it pass him by."
"Thank you," Sam smiled. "Are you all ready, big guy?" Sam asked the little boy.
Tyler nodded happily as he picked up his stuffed donkey, and followed his father, "Toe-bee."
"What was that?" Sam asked his son.
"Toe-bee," Tyler pointed to the donkey.
"I think he named his donkey, Toby," Lisa told Sam. "It's so funny that's all he's been saying this week."
"Really?" Sam asked. "Toby? Are you sure it's not daddy?"
"I am pretty sure he's been saying Toby," Lisa told Sam.
Sam started laughing and patted his on the head.
"I take it your boss is in a better mood when he's in the White House on the weekend," Lisa commented. She had met Toby Ziegler once and thought him to be a cold man.
"He's got a soft spot for Tyler," Sam said. He was happy that his co-workers accepted Tyler and were more than happy to have him in the White House on weekends.
"Have fun with your daddy," Lisa said giving her son a hug. "Bye baby."
"Then we're off," Sam said picking up both Tyler and his bag. "We'll see you Sunday night, Lisa."
"Toe-bee?" Tyler asked his father as they entered the West Wing.
"Yes, we are going to see Toby," Sam told his son, "And Kathy and CJ and Josh, who Daddy is still mad at, and Donna and Leo and the President and you're going to get to meet a new person Daddy works with, her name is Ainsley."
"Toe-bee?" Tyler asked again.
"Yes, Toby," Sam said with a laugh.
"Good Morning Sam, Good morning Tyler," Kathy greeted the two as they passed her. "Mallory O'Brien left two messages this morning, already."
"Thanks Kathy," Sam said to his secretary.
Sam put his son down on the floor and gave him a children's book to look at while he telephoned Mallory, "Hi, you called," Sam said when Mallory answered the phone.
"Yeah," she said. "Can we meet for lunch today?"
"Sure," Sam said.
"Can we have lunch together, just the two of us?" Mallory asked.
"You mean no Tyler?" Sam asked slightly saddened.
"Yes," Mallory said.
"I'll see what I can do," Sam told her. Their relationship continued despite the addition in Sam's life, but the two had not had a moment alone. Sam and Mallory had been going on outings for Tyler's benefit to places like the National Zoo.
"Okay. I'll be in around noon," Mallory said.
"I'll see you then," Sam said. "Bye."
"Bye," Mallory said before she hung up the phone.
"Sam," CJ walked into his office.
"Hi CJ," Sam smiled.
"I was wondering what you were doing for Thanksgiving," CJ said.
"I haven't got any plans yet," Sam told her. "I have Tyler for Thanksgiving, though."
"Well, I somehow obtained a large turkey from my supermarket," CJ continued. "Since I don't have family in the area and hardly any of the senior staff does we could have Thanksgiving at my place. Tyler is more than welcomed, so is Mallory."
"Thanksgiving dinner with CJ?" Sam asked Tyler, "How does that sound? We'll be there, CJ. Thank you."
"Well, I've got a briefing to do, so I will see you later," CJ said exiting the office.
Moments after CJ left the office, Toby Ziegler entered. "Toe-bee!" Tyler shouted with glee running to the middle-aged bearded man.
"Hey there little man," Toby said opening his arms to catch the boy.
"Toe-bee!" Tyler said hugging the man.
"At least someone in this office respects me," Toby smiled.
"Can you do me a favor?" Sam asked.
"No," Toby said dryly, "But because I am so fond of your son, I will at least listen to your request."
"I am having lunch with Mallory today," Sam started. "She seemed pretty set on it just being the two of us."
"Yes, Sam I will keep an eye on Tyler while you go out on your date," Toby agreed without Sam asking. "But this is just so that Josh doesn't lose Tyler again, this does not have anything to do with your social life."
"Thank you Toby," Sam smiled. "Did you need something?"
"Yeah," Toby said. "But I got it."
"What was that?" Sam asked.
"A greeting from this little boy," Toby let a smile appear on across his face. "His vocabulary is getting quite good."
Sam sighed, "The only word he says with any real comprehension is your name and the occasional yes and no."
"Yes, I realize that," Toby said. "I am a little surprised that 'Sam' or 'Joshua' weren't the names he learned first. They seem to be the names that are screamed in these halls the most."
"Thank you, Toby," Sam said trying to end the conversation.
"See you later Tyler," Toby patted the little boy's head.
