Leopold Von Dacger didn't look happy.
When Josh called him, he leaned off his car and rose with effort. He face was extremely red. He breathed with difficulty and his enormous stomach stretched his shirt's button. The knot of his tie was almost hidden under his double chin and it seemed to try to strangle him in a low a shirt neck that was too small.
Josh only intended to greet him and pass some time talking about ROGELIA accident in the Atlantic Ocean, where spill of petroleum threatened the Peninsula of Valdez's flora and fauna .He wasn't prepared to see a man that seemed to be to few heartbeats short of a coronary thrombosis.
- Hi! Leopold heard. You are feeling okay?
- Very well what do you want?
- Nothing special - Josh responded.
- Today I am not in the mood for your chat.
Josh stepped back and said.
- Hey! Maybe you are angry with me. Do you want to tell me why?
Leopold Von Dacger inhaled once, deeply, and his breathing turned more regular.
- It's not you specifically. It's the world, the whole damned world, and miserable pigs that inhabit it - he said with fury - people that believe that God made them better than the rest us, idiots. If you want me to be clear, it's that degenerate Senator from New York. That degenerate that believes I am his damned messenger. I have been in the Capitol for thirty years and that cretin thinks that he can use me like a damned messenger.
Josh opened his mouth to respond, but the circumstance was so absurd that he could not find an appropriate answer. He allowed him to rave Leopold was Leopold. When he finished, Josh asked him.
- What does Gregory Cambryas have to do with you?
- Don't be naive, Lyman. You already know how the thing works. That disgrace insisted he needs a connection with ROGELIA accident investigators. The Senator for NY is very solicitous with regard to C&L Oil who are ROGELIA´S owners. C&L Oil has company branch in New York as well... you knows ...and that makes the company a very important Senator Gregory Cambryas ´s Principal. For that reason he wants to know all that the investigators have discovered about the ROGELIA accident.
Josh shoulders shrank.
- I Neither like Cambryas a lot, non do I find that very reasonable able. - Laughed Josh.
- It's not funny - protested Von Dacger - the man he sent me to see is Federic Bassterre. He is a member of the OPA who is investigating the spill ´s reasons. Do you want to know the message I was sent to transmit to Bassterre?
Josh shook his head
- I don't even dare to risk an assumption
- It's better that the investigators go carefully with regard to C&L Oil, and that if they attribute the accident to the company, they make sure their guess is right or Cambryas will drop the weight of the whole Committee on them. He commended me to tell Federic Bassterre that all those ships antiquity had better be as minimized as possible. Those were his words.
Now Josh wasn't laughing.
- Cambryas truly ordered to you to say that?
Von Dacger agreed emphatically.
- Josh, you know that it's what called a Nixon, concealment. At least it would put OPA in a whole lot of shit if we had to drive an audience for this accident. How will we seem impartial if it's revealed that NY Senator of more hierarchy has been threatening the OPA?
- Why don't you send Cambryas to hell?
- Because I don't want to have a mess on my hands. But I hate myself for that reason. Damn that man...
- Are you sure you heard the message well? You're not mistaken?
- Not I'm.
- This is serious - Josh said - Would Bassterre take Cambryas literally
- I don't believe it -. Von Dacger repeated - The OPA doesn't make treaties with anybody. If somebody is guilty they accuse him. Also in this whole mess is Greenpace, and damned Argentinean Government.
- I believe that if it becomes heavy you should accuse Cambryas.
Von Dacger raised his head suddenly, his eyes half - closed.
- I know my responsibilities. I don't believe that the OPA will allow any concealment in a case like this. That doesn't mean that Cambryas won't attempt it.
Josh patted Von Dacger ´s back said goodbye and went towards his car. Perhaps that topic never thinks about again. Josh wondered what motivated Cambryas to take the risk trying to influence the OPA's investigation. Von Dacger thought that linking Cambryas with C&L oil was enough. But to Josh didn't seem enough motivation. This could ruin him politically, until he could to take Cambryas to the jail. He stopped to think the matter through and then he went to the White House.
