Part 2

When Amanda and Lee got back to the Agency, they headed right up to
Billy's office. "Come in," he answered their knock.
"Billy we just got some information that you need to know," Lee told
the director.
"What going on?" Billy asked
"Auggie Swan just told us today that there is someone after Sam
Seaborn," was Lee's answer.
"What!" Billy bellowed.
"He told us that he overheard a couple of guys talking this morning
and that whoever they are, they said that he had to pay for ruining
their boss," Amanda answered.
"How sure are we that this is on the level?" Billy questioned.
"Well he didn't ask for anything in return for the information,"
Amanda answered.
"Then why did he give us this information?"
"According to Auggie, Sam Seaborn once helped a friend of his and this
is his way of repaying him," was Lee's answer.
"Ok, we need to get a couple of people on this now. The President is
going to want the best on this and since the two of you aren't in the
field anymore, who do you suggest?" Billy asked.
"I would suggest putting two of mine on it Billy, Thompson and Meeks.
Next to Lee and Myself I would have to say that they are the best."
"Ok you go brief them and I'll call the White House."
"Have fun," Lee says as they get up to walk out the door.
"Get out."
Picking up the phone, Billy takes a deep breath and dialed the number
for the White House.
"White House, how may I direct your call?"
"Ron Butterfield please."
"And who is calling?" The operator questioned.
"Tell him it's Billy Melrose."
"One moment sir."
In a room somewhere inside the White House, a phone rings,
"Butterfield"
"Agent Butterfield we have a call for you from a Mr Melrose. Should I
transfer it?"
"Yes," was his terse reply.
A moment later Billy's voice comes over the phone, "Ron?"
"What's up Billy?"
"I have some news to pass on to you. Two of my agents met with an old
source of theirs who told them that there is a hit out on Sam
Seaborn."
"Is this on the level?"
"They think it is."
"Ok, do you have any idea who is behind this?"
"Not at this time, their source didn't really get a good look at the
two men he overheard talking and neither of them mentioned any names.
Just that Seaborn had to pay for ruining their boss a few years ago."
"Ok, I'll want your agents to coordinate with the secret service on
this one, and I'll get an agent on Sam and inform the President. You
should probably expect a call from him by the way. Who do you have on
this case?"
"Joe Thompson and Lee Meeks, they are two of my best."
"I would like to talk the agents who brought you the information."
"It was Agents Lee and Amanda Stetson."
"Scarecrow and Homemaker. Why not assign them the case since it was
their source?"
"Heard of them huh? As for them being on the case they both came out
of the field a few years ago. Technically they aren't even partners
anymore, and are both section chiefs."
"Yea I've heard of them. From what I've gathered they have one of the
best records in the business. I don't suppose you could talk them
into going back out into the field. The President is going to want
the best on this and they are the best."
"I don't think it would take a lot for me to get them to take this
one."
"OK I'll be in touch," Ron said as he hung up the phone.
Pushing the intercom button on his phone Ron says to his secretary,
"Janice get Jordan Loyd and Brent Johnson in here please." Shutting
off the intercom he picks up the phone and dials.
"Oval Office"
"Mrs Landingham it's Agent Butterfield. I need a few minutes of the
Presidents time as soon as possible."
"I can give you twenty minutes at 3:00"
Looking at his watch Ron sees that is just a half an hour from now,
plenty of time for him to speak to his agents. "Thank you Mrs
Landingham."
A couple of moments later Loyd and Johnson come into the office.
"You wanted to see us Ron?" Jordan asked.
"Yes, there has been a hit put out on Sam Seaborn, and till we find
out who it is, I'm assigning the two of you to watch him."
"That's all the information we have?"
"Yes, that's all the information we have. Now Mr Seaborn should be
secure while in the White House, but I want one of you with him at all
times out side of this building." Once again glancing at his watch he
told them, "Now if you will excuse me I have to go brief the President
on this."

Meanwhile back at the agency.
"Lee I need you to come back up to my office please."
"OK, what's up Billy?"
"I'll tell you when you get here."
"OK I'll be right up."
Hanging up the phone before dialing again, Billy thought `one down one
to go."
After hearing "Amanda Stetson" Billy said, "Amanda I need to see you
down in my office for a minute."
"Sure Billy I'll be right down."
Arriving first, Lee walked in and sat down. "Ok Billy what do you
need?"
"I'll tell you as soon as Amanda arrives. This concerns her too."
A couple of minute later Amanda knocked on the door and walked in.
Right away Lee asked again, "OK Billy what's going on?"
"Well, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with the President's
head of security Ron Butterfield, and he wants the two of you on the
case. He thinks that the President would want the best and that's you
two. I also agree with him."
"Billy, Lee and I both came out of the field a few years ago."
"I know that, but the two of you are the best and this one is a real
puzzler. Besides think about you'll have the appreciation of the
President of the United States."
"Billy......"
"Lee I can easily make this an order and I'm sure that it wouldn't
take much to make this an executive order."
"Billy you know that the deal made after I was offered the section
chief job was that Amanda had to come out of the field to and couldn't
work under me as a field agent. If the board where to find out that
we were back in the field it could cost us both our jobs," Lee
complained.
"Ok, number one that was Smyth's deal, number two Amanda wouldn't be
working under you she would be working as your partner and she is of
equal position as you her being a section chief this would simply be
two departments co-operating on an operation and three if the board
has any problem with it I'm sure we could get the President to take
care of it. After all you would be trying to find a would be assassin
of his senior staff, I don't think he would let your get fired for
that.
Looking at Amanda, Lee sighs, "Ok Billy we'll get started right away."
"Perfect, Oh and be expecting a phone call from Ron Butterfield he
said that he wanted to talk to you two."
"Billy could you call Thompson and Meeks and have them meet us in
Lee's office, I'm going to need to talk to them," Amanda said as she
and Lee start to leave the room.
"No problem."

Back at the White House Ron walks into the Oval Office
"What's up Ron?" The President asked.
"A few minutes ago I received a call from the director of the Agency.
Two of his agents today received a tip from a source that a hit has
been put out on Sam."
"A hit? How sure are they?" The President demanded.
"Billy wouldn't have contacted me if there had been much doubt."
"Mrs Landingham," the President bellowed. "Get Sam in here."
