The Vendetta:
Part 7

"What is Princeton's condition?" Ron shouted into his mike, as he
stood to walk to the Oval Office. When all he heard was static he
repeated, "What's Princeton's condition?"
"Princeton was not hit. Repeat Princeton was not hit."
"What is Fullbright's condition?"
"Unharmed as well."
After receiving this bit of information, Ron strode into the Oval
Office.
"What happened?" The President demanded.
"Shots where fired at Princeton a few moments ago," before Ron could
go any further. The door connecting his office to Leo's opened and Leo
came in, having heard the President's raised voice.
"What happened?"
"Shot's where fired at Princeton," Ron repeated for Leo. "Neither he
nor Fullbright was hit. They are on the way back to the White House
as we speak."
"Did we catch whoever it was?" Leo asked.
"No, Agent Loyd's first responsibility was to get both Princeton and
Fullbright out and safely back here. There is a team on it's way, but
I doubt that they will find anyone. Whoever it was will be long gone
by the time they get there."
"I want Sam brought directly here as soon as they arrive," the
President said.
"Yes sir," Ron replied before leaving the room.
"Mrs. Landingham!" The president bellowed.
"Yes sir," she replied coming to the door.
"Have Toby and C.J. come to my office please and call my wife and ask
her to come over as well."
"Yes sir"
"Jed you have to calm down," Leo said.
"No I don't have to calm down Leo. One of my closest advisors was
just shot at! I'm mad and I'm going to stay that way till we find
some answers, so just get used to it."
Before Leo can answer Toby and C.J. come running into the room. "What
happened?" Toby demanded.
"Sam and Josh were fired at, neither one was hit and they are on their
way back here as we speak." Leo answered.
"Oh no," C.J. said softly as she sank down on a couch.
A couple of minutes later the First Lady came hurrying into the room.
"He's not hurt?" She asked.
"The specific phrase we heard was that he wasn't hit," Leo asked.
Ron came back into the room. "They are back and headed this way."
"Thank you Ron," the President replied.
A couple of minutes later Sam and Josh walked into the strained
silence accompanied by agents.
"Sam are you ok?" The First Lady asked when she saw Sam cradling his
hand.
"My hand hurts a little from where Jordan pushed me down, but other
than that I'm ok," Sam replied.
"Here let me see your hand," Abby said as the others stood back and
let her take control.
"What about you Josh, are you ok?" Leo asked quietly.
"I'm fine, just worried about Sam."
After looking at his wrist and probing gently for a few minutes, Abby
said, "Well, I don't think it's broken just sprained. Come here and
sit down and let me wrap it."
"Sam you're going to stay here tonight," the President said quietly.
"Sir, that's not necessary."
"Sam these people know where you live!" Toby exploded.
"Well I can stay with Josh, he already offered."
"Ok so you want to put your friends in danger," C.J. said, pulling at
Sam's guilt strings.
"No," Sam replied looking unsure on what to do.
"Then it's settled. You'll stay here for at least tonight. Now I want
you to go upstairs and rest," Abby ordered.
"But Ma'am, I have work to do, and besides I'm suppose to be working
on that list for the Agents on the case.
After looking at Sam for a few minutes she offered a compromise. "You
rest for an hour then I'll let someone bring up all of those boxes of
files up so you can work on that list. And I'll think about letting
Josh come up to help you on it."
"Thank you Ma'am," Sam replied, knowing that was the best deal he was
going to get.
After he had left she looked at the rest of her husbands staff. "He's
probably going to try to write or type and with his wrist like it is
he needs to do neither. Toby this concerns you especially, for the
next couple of days I don't want him to do anything very strenuous
with that hand. Especially no writing or typing, get him a tape
recorder or something to use and then have someone transcribe it.
Whatever. I just don't want to catch him typing, got it?"
After everyone replied "Yes, Ma'am," Abby turned and left the room.
"We're going to get him and when we do he's going to think that
whatever he suffered before was nothing," the President said. "Now
get back to work. We still have a country to run," and with that
everyone left the room.

Back at the Agency.
"Amanda Stetson." Amanda answered her phone.
"Amanda it's Ron."
"What's up?"
"Shots where fired at Sam this afternoon. I'll have my teams reports
sent over as soon as they are done. Now do you have anything for me?"
"Nothing yet, I'm still wading though old newspaper articles trying to
find something and Lee's waiting on our sources from New York to call
back. You're first on the call list as soon as we find something
out."
"OK I'll be in touch."
~~~~~~~~~
Back at the White House the door to one of the guest bedrooms opened
and Abby stepped though.
"So, is my hour up?" Sam asked with a smile.
"Yes, your hour is up. However, with that wrist I don't want you
writing or typing till it's better. So, here is a tape recorder, I
assume you do know how to use it. You can have someone transcribe it
later if you want. I've also arranged for your supper. Now, don't
forget you're to take it easy and not overdo it."
At that she walks back to the door and lets Josh in who is leading
several people carrying boxes. "OK, let's get started," he said we
have a lot to go though.
