"International Federal Film," the secretary said as she picked up the
phone.
"I need to speak to either Lee or Amanda Stetson. Tell em' it's
Auggie Swan," came the reply.
"Hold on a moment I'll see if I can located either Mr or Mrs Stetson,
Mr Swan." A moment later up in the Q Bureau the phone rang.
"Q Bureau," Amanda Stetson answered.
"Amanda I have a man on the phone who says his name is Auggie Swan.
Should I transfer the call?"
"Auggie? Wonder what he wants? Yeah go ahead and transfer the call."
A moment later Amanda heard the click as the call is transferred.
"What do you want Auggie?"
"I have some information for you and Lee? Can you meet me somewhere?"
"Auggie what's this all about?"
"Just what I said. I have some information for you."
"Auggie is this serious, I am kinda busy today."
"Come on Amanda, this is important."
"OK, where do you want to meet"
"One, at that little park near the Washington Monument"
"OK I'll be there," Amanda told him as she notes the time and place in
her date book, and hung the phone up. A moment later she got up and
headed down to her husbands office. She wanted to discuss this one
with him.
"Come in," came the distracted response when she knocks on his door a
few minutes later.
"Hey you busy?" Amanda asks as she walks into the office.
"I'm never too busy for you," Lee replied as his wife walks in and
closes the door behind her. "What's up?"
"I just thought I would let you know that I'm going to go meet a
source today."
"The Q Bureau is a separate department and your it's chief. You don't
have to report to me. Besides don't you usually send a couple of
agents out to meet the sources?"
"Well, this happens to be an old source of ours, and one that I don't
dare send someone else out for."
"OK, you have my attention now," Pure curiosity on the handsome
section chief's face.
"It's Auggie, he called me and said that he had some information and
wanted me to meet with him"
"Auggie? We haven't heard from him in what a couple of years now?"
Lee asked surprised.
"Something like that, I told him I would meet him at Memorial park at
one."
"Taking any back up?"
"Nah it's just Auggie and he didn't sound nervous or anything. Just
said that he had some information. Unless you want to come with me,
kinda like old times."
"Old times? You make it sound like we're over the hill. All we did
was come out of the field," Lee complained.
"Well, maybe tonight you could prove to me that we aren't over the
hill yet," Amanda suggested with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"I'll give it some thought," Lee teased back,"but for now how about we
just go get some lunch before we meet Auggie?"
"Let's go."

Later Lee and Amanda arrived at the Park for their meeting with
Auggie, and sat down to wait for him to show.
A few minutes later they saw Auggie walking up the trail from the
parking lot. "OK what is this all about Auggie? I thought you got out
of the information business a couple of years ago."
"Well, it's nice to see you too buddy" Auggie replied.
"Auggie," Lee said in a warning tone.
"Alright, let's just say that this but of information was enough to
pull me temporarily out of retirement. This morning I overheard a
couple of guys talking about setting up a hit on someone," Auggie
replied as he straightened his jacket.
"Do you know who these two guys were talking about?" Amanda asked.
"Sam Seaborn."
"As in White House Deputy Communications Director Sam Seaborn?"
Amanda asked.
"Yea, I think it's some kinda grudge thing. One of the men said that
Seaborn had ruined their boss a few years back and that his wasn't
going to get away with it." Auggie replied.
"Do you know who the two men were?" Lee demanded
"No and I didn't really get a good look at them either."
"Anything else you remember Auggie?" Amanda asked gently.
"No, All I really heard was that Seaborn had to pay, that he couldn't
get away with ruining their boss. By the time I had rounded the
corner they had both left." Auggie told them.
"What makes you think that it his life that's in danger and they just
aren't going to try and ruin his career," Lee questioned
"Because the specific phrase was `pay with his life'," Auggie replied.
"Where were you when you heard these men talking?" Amanda asked.
"In the bathroom of Lugies," Auggie said blushing a bit.
"Ok so how much do we owe you for this little bit of information?"
Lee asked.
"It's on the house." Auggie replied.
"On the house, you never give me information willingly `on the
house'," Lee said surprised
"Look, Sam was nicer than he had to be to a friend of mine and didn't
let what she did for a living make any difference in how he treated
her no matter how much flack he took from the people he works with. A
lot of people in this town look down on her just because of what she
had to do to get ahead and make something of herself. So let's just
say this is my way of saying thank you," Auggie then turned on his
heel and walked away.
As they watch him walk away Amanda tells Lee, "We should get back and
tell Billy so that he can contact the White House."
"I really don't envy Billy his job right now. Imagine having to tell
The President that one of his senior aides is being gunned after."
"Still better Billy than Dr Smyth, Billy at least has the tact to deal
with President Bartlet."
"I don't think Smyth would have even made it though McGarry."
"All of those poor people. First the assignation attempt just because
they didn't like a black man dating a white woman, and now this,"
Amanda said with a sad look on her face.
"Well, come on let's get back to the office so that we can get this
over with," Lee told her as he led her back up the trail to his car.
